Learn Net

Learn Net is a Greater Manchester-based learning network based in community centres co-ordinated by MCIN. Offering both non-accredited and accredited courses, Learn Net is a unique partnership that brings together the third sector, the statutory sector and the education sector.

Learn Net exists to:

  • provide progression between socially excluded or ‘disadvantaged’ groups and mainstream education and employment agencies
  • provide essential open access to ICT, e-government and local job opportunities
  • Support community cohesion and integration through its network of local community anchors

Initially part of the UK Online Centres, Learn Net facilitates essential local access to ICT training, general online resources and e-government resources. Learn Net success, however, has meant that we are now migrating away from just ICT and are able to provide general training, support and mentoring. As centres are based in excluded communities they act as community anchors providing activities for local people to meet and participate in. These could include youth activities, community events, and community cafes

Learn Net initially established itself in East Manchester but has now expanded into other parts of Manchester, Salford and Bolton. Learn Net has 30 community centres involved in the partnership as well FE collages and  adult education services.  Click here for a list of partners. The partnership has also undertaken a number of evaluations in East Manchester and North Manchester. Click here to find out more details.

Learn Net has brought training right to the heart of local communities across Greater Manchester. Learn Net also provides an outreach programme where we take our equipment and trainers in at a grass roots level. These can include sessions in youth clubs, community facilities in schools or residential homes dealing with homeless or drug and alcohol addiction.

Learn Net has secured Open College accreditation and is an assessor for the eDigital Competence Certificate
