Achievements
MCIN has:
- Developed strong, effective, cross-sector partnerships with statutory, private, voluntary and community organisations.
- Worked with www.mymanchester.net (external site, opens in new window), which is a comprehensive community information website providing a single point of access for a wide variety of information. In addition, MCIN facilitates fourteen geographic and community of interest portal sites across Greater Manchester.
- Developed a number of interactive mechanisms to engage local people including forums, events diaries, jobs online, live streaming of community radio, audio downloads of poems, and information in different languages.
- Created an electronic arts project that involves working with BME groups and individuals to develop poetry. This is then streamed on Internet TV, community radio, and a website with downloads and further information.
- Developed ICT in the community and voluntary sector by offering training and technical support. We have also worked with people to develop websites, initially using a database-driven content management system.
- Provided information kiosks in a number of community locations with private sector and public sector funding.
- Supported The Eastserve Project which included developing a website, supporting the implementation of wired-up communities in the area, and developing a wireless network.
- Managed a UK Online Centre partnership in East Manchester, made up of nine UK Online Centres, MANCAT, New East Manchester Urban Regeneration Company, New Deal for Communities, and the Workers Education Association.
